Chris Dick Receives Local Hero Award

Chris was recognized during Week 8 of the All-New England Open and Semi-Finals Lowell Golden Gloves, as part of the Local Champion initiative that aims to raise awareness of important community events and encourage residents to get involved with local nonprofit organizations.

The Greater Lowell YMCA, also known as “the Y,” is an organization committed to helping community members reach their full potential through learning programs and activities. According to the Y, every donation is crucial: “Whether you’re helping a child attend summer camp, supporting someone in making a healthy change in their life, or contributing to the construction of a new Y facility.”

The Y offers a wide range of fitness classes and equipment that can be enjoyed by all ages, including a pool, basketball courts, racquetball courts, childcare, and summer camps. Additionally, the Y provides special programming such as swim lessons, sports, dance, art, wellness, and strength training.

The Greater Lowell YMCA also serves a diverse community of members, many of whom face economic challenges. “We recognize this and offer financial assistance through our People Helping People campaign,” the Y states.

“I’ve been volunteering on the Board of Directors of the Greater Lowell YMCA for 20 years,” said Chris Dick, Board of Directors Member of the Greater Lowell YMCA. “I’m passionate about giving back and supporting organizations that focus on families and children—values I learned from my parents. My family is everything to me, and helping my community thrive is at the heart of everything I do.”

“For the 20 years I’ve known Chris Dick, he’s always been deeply involved in giving back to the Greater Lowell community,” said Kevin Morrisey, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Lowell YMCA. “His passion and leadership in helping others is what makes him so special. He loves sharing his YMCA story and has been an advocate for improving the Y and all that we serve. He truly makes a difference in so many lives in the Greater Lowell community.”

“The New England Golden Gloves and Lowell Sun Charities are honored to recognize Chris Dick for his exceptional work with the Greater Lowell YMCA. The Greater Lowell YMCA, the New England Golden Gloves, and the Lowell Sun Charities all share a unified mission: to empower youth and community members by helping them transform their lives for the better. These organizations have made a lasting impact on countless individuals, and we are proud to continue supporting Chris and his efforts with a donation to the Greater Lowell YMCA,” said Bob Russo, Executive Director of the New England Golden Gloves.
