Roland Receives First Responder of the Year Award
Congratulations Roland for receiving the Emergency Medical Professional of the Year award from the Haverhill Exchange Club during their annual First Responders Luncheon.
Amazing job Roland! While off-duty and traveling down 495 south, Roland came upon a motor vehicle that had veered off the road and flipped over the guard rail. Roland’s instincts kicked in and he immediately pulled over to help assess the situation.
Roland, a resident of Hudson, NH, has been in EMS for 40 years and a Paramedic for 37 of them.
As Roland came upon the upside-down vehicle, he and fellow First Responder, Asst. Chief Michael Moriarty from MassPort Fire, took over the scene.
They asked the group to stop pushing the vehicle and assessed the patient, who had no pulse. They then unclipped the individual and were able to extricate the individual out the back window of the vehicle. Roland noticed no trauma to the patient and immediately suspected a medical episode. He called dispatch to update them.
